Casca 13 The Assassin edition by Barry Sadler Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I'll be honest I'm not sure why I'm still reading this series. They are racist, sexist, predictable, and genuinely awful.
If these weren't part of the Owners' Lending Library, I wouldn't be reading them, because I wouldn't want to spend money on them. Even thrift-store book prices are too high for these books. They are bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.
Oh - did I mention that they're bad?
I'm sure that - for the time - they were progressive. In this one, for example, there are one or two Arabic characters who aren't villains. All the rest of them are seventies-era flat scheming stereotypes, addicted to drugs, sex, or both.
Casca the assassin is a great tale about Casca and his time in Persia, there's everything we could expect and more in this volume of the series
There is a lot of humor in this book, I would like to know which of the series that Barry Sadler actually wrote before his death.
Great book, different than the other books in the series. This one has a darker ,more realistic feel to it.
The only issue is that the editor could have proof read it better.
I am a hugh fan of the Casca series by Barry Sadler; however, this story was a little confusing to follow. The entire story line was just blah and the build up to a climatic fight or battle didn't happen. The characters were okay, but I never became mentally attached to any of them to care if they lived of died. I like how each book presents a new method of trying to kill Casca, only to fail, but this one was painful and repeated itself and I could never imagine going through what he went through. Yes, of course he meets a beautiful woman and beds her, come on, he's Casca. Overall, it I gave it three stars for most of the book, but not for the characters and plot. I listened to this on audio and the narrator was excellent.
As I have mentioned in my other reviews for the Casca series, the stories are great but the transition into format messes up the spacing, especially for the paragraphs. Otherwise I am completely happy with my purchase
The benefits being eternal.
