*Book Two in The Kingmakers' War, a series perfect for fans of Throne of Glass and Game of Thrones.

Briand Varryda hasn't seen Kael and his company of Monarchists since they succeeded in destroying the Barrow Bridge and thwarting the march of the enemy. She's been hidden away for two years with the Hermit, forgotten. But when the Hermit protecting her is killed, she flees, hiding among thieves from the insidious Seekers.

Briand doesn't want to be a pawn for the Monarchists or the Seekers. She doesn't want to pick a side in the war. She simply wants to live and be free.

When another thief betrays her, Briand makes a deal for her freedom and joins another Monarchist plot with the enigmatic Kael to steal a legendary treasure from a dragon-infested cave. But there are problems. She might have feelings for Kael. The Seekers are pursuing them. The caverns rest beneath an estate of perilous dangers.

And Briand has secrets of her own.

A Bed of Blades The Kingmakers' War Book 2 eBook Kate Avery Ellison

I really like Kate Avery Ellison's writing. Her stories have an easy flow to them that just makes them enjoyable to read. Her writing is very straight and to the point which produces an easy to read book with an interesting story behind it.

I am really glad to see this sequel to "A Gift of Poison", and I am waiting excitedly for the next book to come out.

I really enjoyed how she hid things from the reader in the story, and we didn't learn certain elements of the story until the other characters learned them, which made the surprise and shock a lot more realistic.

I highly suggest this book to any fans of fantasy adventure stories.

A Bed of Blades The Kingmakers' War Book 2 eBook Kate Avery Ellison Reviews

Kate Avery Ellison is a great author. Her stories draw you in; her characters are interesting and edgy.
I love this book just as much the first one. It has everything you need. There's adventure, danger, romance that wants to happen, secrets, magic and dragons!.. Geez, whatever is happening between Briand and Kael, they need to figure their stuff out. I do wish the books were longer though. I try to only read a few chapters whenever I pick up the book but it's just so hard to stop. I get so locked into what is happening that before i know it im at the end. Also I feel sad with how it ended. It just left me hanging. I need the next book to come out.
More and more comes to like and it still feels like a introduction into a world and powers unknown. ...
I'm enthralled by this series, I must keep going, must keep reading....I need to know!! There's so much more to enjoy!
This book is the second in the kingmakers war series, and I honestly didn't it as much as the first. I found myself often and frequently frustrated with the main characters, their actions and decisions. It's a decent book, worth reading if you read and loved the first, but not at the same level of quality.
This is a very good follow up to the first book. There's angst, but not an annoying amount of it. Briand sure is scrappy and Kael needs to make up his mind about her. The introduction of Auberon makes things even more interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about him just yet. However, I adore how much Nath and Tibus have come to care for Briand.
I LOVED the previous book A Gift of Poison. And highly suggest your read it, if you haven’t yet.

Because of that love, I preordered and binge-read this sequel. And overall, I enjoyed it. Some spoilers ahead.

The Characters
Briand is an interesting character. I really love her, but I love a tortured-heroine. She has MASSIVE trust issues that are completely earned. Everyone has left this poor woman/girl. I really missed her cousin, Bran, though. I thought he was a great contrast to Briand in the first novel. Hopefully we will see more of him in the next. Kael is Kael. He is your typical brooding-not-quite-hero and I’ve lost some love for him in this book. We don’t really see much of the group from the first book in this one, and the getting-the-band-back-together pay off was sort of lacking. We are briefly introduced to a new character Maera that I hope we get to see more of.

The World
I want more steampunk elements.

The Romance
UGHHHHH… I don’t know how to talk about this without massive spoilage, so SPOILER ALERT.

Briand and Kael have an extremely unbalanced relationship. Briand has trust issues. Her mother died, her father died, her uncle treated her like crap. The only person who has treated her as a person is Bran. BUT, despite being hesitant, Briand has trusted Kael multiple times. Even when he hasn’t been completely honest. I love this slightly naive mindset of hers. But after this book, she should never trust Kael again.

This man constantly expects and believes the worst of her. It doesn’t matter how many times she saves-the-day, Kael always thinks she isn’t on their side. She trusted that Kael wasn’t a traitor without any proof, even after he abandoned her! But does he trust her? NOPE. Not to mention, Briand had to be the vulnerable one when the whole ‘define the relationship’ moment happened. That poor girl keeps getting her heart ripped out and Kael wonders why she is so hesitant to trust the monarchists. UGH tortured heroes will be the death of me.

I kept worrying that there was going to a love triangle introduced when Meara enter that scene. THANK GOD that didn’t happen. If there is going to be a love triangle, I hope we get introduced to a new suitor for Briand. She deserves someone who treats her with respect. I still hope Kael gets his s*** together but as it stands he deserves to do A LOT of groveling. In fact, I don’t know much about Kael’s brother but if the competitive sibling thing doesn’t make him evil; I’m all for him being the third point in the triangle.

Conclusion
I know it sounds like I’m picking apart this novel, but it’s a testament to how invested I am. I do wish this book was a little longer and we got more time explore this world. I can’t wait for the next one!
